SHERIDAN -- A celebration of life for Michael Charles Steel, 33, will be at 4 p.m. Today, July 24, 2008, at the Sheridan Country Club with Reverend Kevin Jones officiating.

He died on July 16, 2008, in a boating accident at Tongue River Reservoir.

He was born on August 24, 1974, in Buffalo, to William Steel and Molly Steel. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1993.

He then attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., and received two bachelor’s degrees one in political science and one in education, with honors, in 1997.

He married his high school sweetheart, Amy Rochelle Jordan, on July 25, 1998, in Big Horn, at the Big Horn Equestrian Center.

He attended the University of Wyoming, College of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor degree, with honors, in 2001.

While in law school, he served as an editor of the law review.

He was also admitted to the Order of the Coif.

He was an active member of the Sheridan County Bar Association, the Wyoming State Bar Association, and the Montana State Bar Association, and a past member of the American Bar Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

He was admitted to practice before all State and Federal Courts in Wyoming and Montana, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.

At the time of his death, he was a partner in the law firm of Lonabaugh and Riggs in Sheridan.

He is survived by his wife, Amy of Sheridan; four children, Coy Steel, Talia Steel, Brock Steel, and Dane Steel; parents, Molly Steel, and William and Nancy Steel all of Sheridan; brother, Heath Steel and his wife of Sheridan; an uncle; and four in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Chuck and Marian Meyers Brown, Ralph Meyers, and William and Marie Steel.

After playing football and baseball at Carlton College, he continued to enjoy competing in football, basketball, softball, and racquetball.

He enjoyed coaching his children and other children in Sheridan.

He was on the board of directors of the Sheridan Stadium Foundation

He cherished time with his family, spending time in the mountains, golfing, traveling, and boating.

He and his wife touched the lives of many people in the Sheridan.

He enjoyed the time he spent with his many great friends.

Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Michael Steel Memorial Fund for the education of his children, at First Interstate Bank, Sugarland Branch, Sheridan, WY.
