LANDER--Funeral services for Scott Bernard Hill, 33, will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop John Irene officiating.  Cremation will follow the services.

He died at home the night of Jan. 27 2001, with members of his family and friends at his bedside.  He was diagnosed with cancer in November , 1994.

He was born in Cheyenne on Nov. 4, 1967, the son of Gail Richard and Alta Rose (Sobotka) Hill.

The family moved to Sheridan when he was 3 months old.  He attended schools in Sheridan and was a 1986 graduate of Sheridan High School.  He continued his education at Sheridan College and the Wyoming State Law Enforcement Academy at Douglas as a detention officer.

He was a certified peace officer and was employed by the Fremont County Sheriff's Department.  He recently received recognition from his fellow officers and friends of the Fremont County Sheriff's Department for his "outstanding courage, upbeat positive attitude and determination to fight the battle in a way that has been an inspiration to us all."

He was a member of the Wyoming Peace Officer's Association and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lander.

He married Sherry Mae Johnson, daughter of Kurt and Darlene Johnson, in Sheridan on March 5, 1993.  They have two daughters, Amber Mae, 6, and Haley Rose, 3.

In addition to his wife and daughters of Lander, he is survived by his parents, his sister, Susan Houston, and his brother, Mark Hill, all of Sheridan; his grandmother, Gladys Sobotka of Story; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Ruth Hill.

Memorials may be made to Jim's friends, a Lander cancer support group or Help for Health, which provides funds for those receiving cancer care, in care of Hudson's Funeral Home, 680 Mount Hope Dr., Lander 82520; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
