Bernadette "Bernie" VIGIL Shafer 1965 - 2006 SHS1983
Bernadette "Bernie" Shafer passed away May 4 2006, at her residence, after a courageous 16-year battle with renal failure.

Cremation has taken place, at her request. The Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at St. Pius X Catholic Church and the Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 8, at St. Pius. Smith Downtown Chapel is assisting with these arrangements.

She was born in Sheridan, Wyo., to Abel "Poncho" and Josephine Vigil. She attended Holy Name School, graduated from Sheridan High School and then attended a college in Oregon.

On Dec. 12, 1987, she married Scott T. Shafer in Sheridan.

Bernadette's greatest joys were watching her son play football and taking part in the many activities he was in. She enjoyed her friends at the Billings Clinic Dialysis Center and appreciated the affection and loving care shown by the staff.

She worked as a deejay and a secretary. She enjoyed playing bingo, listening to music, collecting cookbooks and playing cards with her "Daddy."

She is survived by her husband, Scott, and son, George of Billings; her mother and father of Sheridan; three brothers, Ernie Vigil of Portland, Ore., Steve Vigil of Elko, Nev., and Ramon "Pino" Vigil of Arlington, Wash.; two sisters, Jennifer Brown of Kalispell, and Barbara Crump of Green River, Wyo.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

At Bernadette's request, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Billings Clinic Dialysis Fund, Box 37000, 2800 10th Ave. N., Billings, MT 59107.
