A 19-year-old Laramie man has been charged with first-degree murder following a shooting here early Sunday that left a Cheyenne man dead and another wounded police said.

Patrick K. Ridley is being held without bond in the Albany County Jail, Laramie Police Detective Gary Puls said. Ridley appeared Monday in justice of peace court, and a prliminary hearing was set for Mar. 19.

The victim was identified as Gregory Bell, 22, a student at the University of Wyoming. Police said Bell was pronounced dead on arrival a Laramie hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Mandy Rouse, 18, of Laramie, was released from Ivinson Memorial Hospital on Monday, He had been treated for a gunshot wound in the shoulder.

Puls said Laramie police and Albany County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call at the West Laramie residence of Ridley's wife's parents shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday.

Police said they found Bell and Rouse shot with a high-powered rifle.

The shooting apparently stemmed from an altercation between Bell and Ridley, police said, and Rouse may have been shot accidentally.

Gregory was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bell, former Sheridan residents. Gregory graduated from Sheridan High School with the class of 1976. He excelled in wrestlng and swimming while attending SHS. His father George Bell, served as district engineer for the state highway department prior to transferring to Cheyenne three years ago.

Services were today at the Schrader Chapel in Cheyenne, Dr. Eugene Rowbotham officiating. Burial took place in Beth El Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 5, 1957 in Boulder, Colo., and had lived three years in Cheyenne. He has a sister, Suzanne Bell of Cheyenne and a brother David of Laramie.
