Shelley Marie Hecksel, age 57, of Vernal, passed away September 24, 2014, at the Uintah Basin Rehabilitation and Sr. Villa after a 15 year battle with cancer.

She was born January 9, 1957, in Powell, Wyoming, to Robert Walter and Imogean Lucille Meredith McPhail.

She married Mark Christopher Hecksel on July 2, 1993, in Buffalo, Wyoming.

Shelley fought her cancer with everything she had and her strength was an inspiration to many.

She was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed hiking, camping, and gardening. She was a good listener and liked her "soap operas".

She adored and loved her children and grandchildren, and was the best grandmother she could be.

Shelley is survived by her husband, Mark, of Vernal; her daughter Kim Salstrom, Rock Springs, WY; son, Glenn Andrew "Drew" Bennick, II (Jesse Miller), Story, WY; grandchildren, Madison Misculin and Bailey Bennick; mother, Gean McPhail, Newark, OH: brother, Michael McPhail, Phoenix, AZ; sisters, Kathleen (Mike) Degenhart, Billings, MT; Colleen (Randy) Nipps, Granville, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert.

In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated and her cremated remains will be scattered in her favorite mountain area.
