John Wesley MADDUX 1956 - 2024 SHS 1975

John Wesley Maddux passed away peacefully in Denison, Texas on January 13, 2024, at the age of 67 after a long struggle with his health. John was born November 6, 1956, in Sheridan, Wyoming to Carl Leon and Betty Lu (Arnold) Maddux. John was the second oldest of 4 children.

During his childhood John spent many summers on his grandparents (Helen and Gene Johnson) ranch in southern Montana. In 1971 John went to live at the Cathedral Home for Children in Laramie Wyoming. It was at the Children’s Home that John met Robin Haas who became the mother he never really had. John’s and Robin’s close relationship endured till the very end. John graduated from Sheridan High School in 1975. After high school, John attended Sheridan College and was a member of the rodeo team riding broncs. John worked in various fields over his lifetime including seismic, insurance, ranching, cars, horse trailers and oil and gas.

John had two sons Ryan and Karl from his first marriage with Andrea Garner. In 2001, he married Mary Culver and adopted Mary’s two daughters Trinity and Margaret (Maggie) the following year. John supported Mary’s career with the federal government which resulted in moves to Utah and Texas.

John had some notable accomplishments during his life. In 2001 he was named the number one Featherlite horse trailer salesman in the United States. John obtained a patent for removing contaminants from water on November 21, 2002.

John loved being a grandfather and he loved to collect art, garden, hunting, reloading, cooking, and helping kids with their fundraisers. John was a supporter of the National Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, and The Turkey Federation just to name a few.

John is survived by his wife Mary, children Ryan (Jill) Maddux of San Franscisco, California, Karl (Doreen) Maddux of Grants Pass, Oregon, Trinity (Charles) Horton of Sherman, Texas and Maggie Maddux of Pottsboro, Texas, grandchildren Alexander, Andrew, James, John, Anne, Logan, Ryver, and Lily, siblings James (Belle) Maddux, Cindy (DG) Reardon, and Charlene (Jeff) Murdock, close friend Robin Haas.

He was preceded in death by his father, and grandparents.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will take place this summer in Sheridan, Wyoming.

John was cremated per his wishes.
