Sheridan native Darryl L. Dockstader, 56, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, in Grand Junction, Colo., of pancreatic cancer, according to family.

He was buried Monday in Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado in Grand Junction with military rites by the Colorado Patriot Guard.

Arrangements were with Martin Mortuary of Grand Junction.

Born May 22, 1953, he attended schools in Sheridan, graduating from Sheridan High School in 1973.

He worked for various employers in this area including Big Horn Coal, Sheridan County sheriff's office, YMCA, and in electronics maintenance and repair.

He moved to Colorado, where he continued work in electronics maintenance in Grand Junction and Parachute, most recently for five years with West Star Aviation in Grand Junction.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Raetta Dockstader, in 1966; a sister, Sheryl, in 1969; and his father, Vern, in 1976.

Survivors include two brothers, Elmer Vehnekamp of North Manchester, Ind., and Billy Vehnekamp of Mandeville, La.
