SHERIDAN -- A memorial service for Sheridan resident Joseph "Ed" Cherni, 53, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Kane Funeral Home of Sheridan by the Rev. Ron Stolcis.

Cremation has taken place and inurnment, with military honors, will follow in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

He died Sept. 1, 2005, at his home.

Born March 21, 1952, in Sheridan, he was the son of Helen (Madzia) and Joseph Cherni; and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1971.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served until his honorable discharge in 1973.

For several years, he was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad. After attending welding classes at Sheridan College, he worked throughout Wyoming as a welder in construction.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and visiting with people; and loved his dogs, Snowflake and Taz, who were like children to him.

Survivors include his mother of Sheridan; son, Robert Cherni of St. Louis; two sisters, Elizabeth and Barbara Cherni, both of Sheridan; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father.
