Stephen L. Meece 1951 - 2011 SHS 1970
;

Stephen L. Meece, 59, of Sheridan, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2011 at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.

Stephen was born in Galesburg, IL on September 9, 1951 to parents LaWanda "Polly" (Buck) and Virgil Max Meece. He grew up in Alliance, NE and then moved to Sheridan in 1969 and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1970.

He married Brenda G. Horsley in Sheridan on November 22, 1974.

He worked for Mydland Dairy as a milk processor before joining Burlington Northern Railroad in April of 1976. He retired from there in 2001.

Stephen enjoyed his morning walks with his dog, "Aspen". He would be seen all over town; rain, snow, or whatever! He enjoyed rooting for Nebraska Cornhuskers and Wyoming Cowboys; the New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants; the Philadelphia 76ers, (in their day) and he had a love/hate relationship with the Denver Broncos. He loved his family and being around them. He was proud of his flower garden, but not necessarily the work it took to maintain it. Stephen always had a half-smile with an ever-present toothpick.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, daughters; Angela VanHouten (Kurtis), of Casper, Heather Meece of San Luis Obispo, CA and Kimberly Meece of Sheridan. His mother and father in law, Virgil and Betty Horsley, of Sheridan, brothers; Gary (Mary Anne) Meece, Martin (Darlene) Meece, all of Sheridan, and David Meece of Gillette, and two grandchildren; Andrew and Sydney VanHouten. Along with numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
