Daniel Thomas Carlat, 57, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at his ranch home south of Buffalo.

Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday at Big Horn Baptist Church in Buffalo with Pastor Pete Friese officiating.

Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services to follow the funeral.

Born May 11, 1952, in Sheridan to Robert and Charlene Carlat, he attended school in Broadus, Mont. At age 14, he moved with his family to his grandparents’ ranch in Decker, Mont., and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1970.

He attended Sheridan College for two years and later went to work with his dad on the family ranch near Decker.

He married Linda Aksamit on Dec. 1, 1973, in Ranchester. In 1974 they moved to a ranch on Pass Creek near Wyola, Mont., where they lived for 18 years.

In 1991 the couple purchased the Lower Willow Glen Ranch south of Buffalo, where they lived and worked.

Mr. Carlat was active in the Johnson County Farm Bureau and on the bureau’s board of directors. He was an officer with the Johnson County Co-op and a longtime member of the Homesteader Band, which played in Johnson and Sheridan counties.

He enjoyed ranch work, collecting and restoring vintage automobiles, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; his parents of Sheridan; two sons, Loren Carlat of Buffalo and Charley Carlat of Valencia, Calif.; one daughter, Janey Back of Douglas; three sisters, Shirley Muller and Janice Feaster of Sheridan and Susan Yalowizer of Ranchester; and seven grandchildren.
