OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - Tuesday, June 17, 2003

SHERIDAN- Services for Mary L. Sams, 52, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17 at the Salvation Army Church, with Capt. Kyle and Martha Trimmer officiating.  Following the services, a reception will be held at the Salvation Army Community Center.

Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

She died June 13, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Born March 20, 1951, in Sheridan, she was the daughter of Earl H. and Ola (Kelly) Newcomer.  She grew up and attended elementary schools in Ashland, Mont. and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1969.

She married Andrew Sams on Thanksgiving Day, 1971 in Ashland.

She lived most of her life in the Sheridan area and was a baker and cook for the Senior Citizen's Center.  A member of numerous lodges and organizations, her other hobbies included painting, feeding the fish at her pond, and cutting hay. She also loved animals and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her mother, Ola Newcomer of Billings, Mont.; two sons, Earl and Fred Sams of Sheridan; two daughters, Amy Bennage and Amandy Romero, and their spouses, all of Sheridan; one brother, John Newcomer of Phoenix; two sisters, Becky Elliott and her husband of Tucson, Ariz. and Teresa Newcomer of Billings, Mont.; and two granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her father and two aunts.

Champion Ferries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
