Richard (Dick) Owen Mefford 67 of Dalhart, TX passed away after a short fight with cancer on May 18th, 2017 in Amarillo Texas.

Private Family Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Dick was born on February 16th, 1950 in Sheridan WY, to Harry and Dorothy (Shreve) Mefford.

He graduated from Sheridan High School. After high school Dick went to work in Yellowstone park as a wrangler for one summer and then went on to work for several ranches as a cowboy in the Sheridan WY area.

He met the love of his life Vivian Mc Naney on the rodeo trail, and they were married in 1979. Dick and Vivian left Sheridan in 1986 to move to Dalhart TX. He worked for a feed lot for a short while and then went on to work for a couple of different ranchers taking care of cattle on the wheat fields and grass lands of Texas and Roy, New Mexico.

Dick enjoyed team roping, and riding horses that had issues and needed some fixing. He also enjoyed his ice-cold Coors Light and shooting a good game of pool with friends. Dick came across as a big tough guy but was a teddy bear deep down inside.

He is survived by his wife Vivian of Dalhart, TX. Tom (Cheryl) Mefford, of Hardin MT, Gary (Sara) Mefford, of Sheridan WY and Harry's wife Gayle Mefford. Brother and sister in laws, Dave (Connie) Mc Naney Hysham MT, Debbie (Randy) Steinke Colome, SD. Nieces and nephews, Ashley, Londyn, Lexi, Hazer, Brian, and Brenda. And 3 great nieces and a grandnephew. Dick leaves behind the numerous friends he had in Dalhart, Roy and Sheridan.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, and one aunt.
