CASPER -- The funeral for Casper resident Karen Kay Schmill, 54, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Katherine Robinson.

Cremation will have taken place under the direction of Bustard's Funeral Home and Crematory.

She died Nov. 5, 2005, at Central Wyoming Hospice Home, after a courageous four-year struggle with ovarian cancer.

Born Nov. 30, 1950, in Sheridan, she was the daughter of Dorothy and Harry Bodine; and attended Sheridan public schools, Sheridan College and Chadron, Neb., State College.

With a bachelor of science degree in business administration, she became one of the first women hired at management level by Wyoming National Bank. She lived and worked in Gillette. After relocating to Casper, she was an office manager for Centrilift.

In July 1986, she married John Glenn Schmill. They were the parents of two daughters and, later, divorced.

She was known for her outgoing and friendly personality and positive outlook on life. She had performed in several Stage III Community Theater productions; and loved to organize neighborhood activities and parties. A Girl Scout leader and a room mother at Verda James Elementary School, she became a Master Gardener; served as secretary of the Sheltie Club; and followed her daughters' school and dog-show activities.

When her daughters attended preschool at St. Mark's, she joined the church and taught Sunday school; was a member of the Altar Guild; and assisted with vacation Bible school. She completed a four-year study program, Education for the Ministry; and loved being a part of the church family.

The original activity director at Meadow Winds Assisted Living, she loved to plan activities for all the residents and broaden their horizons by taking them on field trips throughout Casper and the surrounding area.

Her interests included photography; holiday get-togethers; shopping trips to Denver and San Francisco; beach walks in Hawaii and Mexico; camping reunions in the Big Horns; and traveling with her children.

Survivors include her daughters, Allison Rose and Brooke Ann Schmill; her mother of Gillette; two sisters, her twin, Karol Anne Tinken, and her husband of Gillette and Bethel Bodine and her partner of El Cerrito, Calif.; a sister-in-law; two nieces; a nephew; and her good friend and former mother-in-law, Helen Schmill of Casper.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Ronald Bodine.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to Central Wyoming Hospice Home, 319 S. Wilson St., Casper, WY 82601.
