Bruce PUETT 1949 - 2018 SHS 1968

Bruce Puett went to be with our Lord on Nov. 22, 2018, following a long struggle with health problems.

He was born to Robert and Helen (DeJarlais) Puett on Nov. 16, 1949, in Sheridan, WY. He went to Sheridan schools, graduating from Sheridan High in 1968 and attending Sheridan College for two years.

Bruce loved this community and was active in many of its organizations including Sheridan Jaycees, a past president of Story Lions Club, Sheridan County Crime Stoppers chairman, All American Indian Days board and past master of Big Horn Mountain Masonic Lodge #43. He worked as a volunteer EMT-II for 13 years with the Story Ambulance Service and served on it's board of directors. Bruce was a certified instructor for CPR, first-aid, BEC and EMT courses. He took pride in helping others and giving back to the community.

Bruce worked many different jobs but the most rewarding was the 23 years at Sheridan County Sheriff's Office. He liked working as a Detention Officer and performing other duties. Through this job he also took hostage negation training. His duties working with extradition allowed him to travel to 20 different states. He liked telling people he had been in over 100 jails, 1 federal prison, and 3 state prisons. When people gave a shocked look he told them it was just part of his job. One of his greatest joys was laughing and joking with his many friends.

In 1975 Bruce married the love of his life, Barbara Burton. They became active with the foster care program in Sheridan County, taking in children who were in need of a temporary home. They stopped this to raise their adopted daughter Casey.

Their love of animals had them take in abused and neglected dogs and cats the whole duration of their marriage. Bruce often stated he loved to watch these animals as they learned to trust again.

Bruce took great pride in his active involvement with their church and their church family. Bruce got involved as a van driver for Joy Junction and later, Bethesda Worship Center. He always looked forward to the time he spent with "his kids". He was proud of each one of them.

Bruce was preceded in death by both parents and his brother Robert.

Survivors, in addition to Barbara and Casey, are brother Richard (Evie) of Plainfield, IL, sister Ceci (Ken) Fitzpatrick of Sheridan, honorary son Francis Howard of Shelton, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Bethesda Worship Center on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Scott Lee officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bethesda Worship Center student ministries van fund at BEC, 5135 Coffeen Ave. Sheridan, WY 82801.
