Cheri Ann HENSLEY Moon 1949 - 2020 SHS 1967

Cheri was born on March 23, 1949, to Jess & Norma Jean Hensley of Sheridan, WY. Cheri grew up in the house her father built with her siblings Dale, Mary & Scott on 2nd W. Parkway until she graduated from Sheridan High School in 1967. Cheri graduated Sheridan College and went on to University of Wyoming to get her degree in social work. She was a cheerleader at Sheridan College and was rumored to have dated Chris LeDoux after meeting him at rodeo club.

She loved to travel, and one adventure took her to New York where she stayed for the summer. During this time Cheri flew to Hayes, Kansas for a family wedding. Her luggage never made it & we would kid her that Castro's wife was wearing her clothes. She returned to Sheridan two weeks before Woodstock because "she didn't have a ticket".

Cheri married David Moon Aug. 29, 1970. They were married for 50 years and celebrated with family and friends in 2020. Together they shared many adventures. From moving to Anchorage, Alaska where they became parents to their daughter Misti. Then after 5 years moving back to Gillette, Wy to be closer to family. They traveled from coast to coast may times.

While in Gillette Cheri went back into social work where she was the case manager for folks with disabilities. In 2002 they moved to Sundance, Wy to retire. After retiring Cheri always wanted to attend the balloon festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Luckily, they were able to go.

In 2014 Cheri was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. She fought hard and survived 5 years longer than expected. The Lord came to take Cheri home on Nov. 23, 2020.

Cheri was preceded in death by her parents and brothers.

Cheri is survived by her husband Dave, daughter Misti (Chris) McMackin, sister Mary (Gary) Mentock, grandsons Ashante' Moon, Trafford McMackin and Christian McMackin. Her uncle Dick (Barb) Runge and many loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Cremation and internment have taken place at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
