John H. Kostenbauer, Jr. of Dorena, OR died on March 3, 2008 of a heart attack. He was 61.

He was born in Sheridan, Wyoming on June 15, 1946 to John and Vera Jean (Babcock) Kostenbauer, Sr. He grew up in Sheridan, Wyoming and graduated from Sheridan High School. He later graduated from the University of Maryland and received his Master’s Degree at the University of Oregon.

He served in the U.S. Army for 12 years, spending part of that time in Alaska. He was a medic in Vietnam, and was a Captain at the time of his discharge. While in the Army, he moved to various places before settling in Lane County 32 years ago.

He married Joyce Rainier in 1968 and they were later divorced.

He married Kathy Klingsporn in August 1999 in Eugene, OR.

He was a Human Resource Director in the health field, as well as a registered nurse.

He enjoyed college football, soccer, golfing, vacationing in Hawaii, traveling, sunny beaches, and returning to Wyoming to visit family.

He was a member of the University of Oregon Alumni Association and Calvary Fellowship in Cottage Grove.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Michelle Kostenbauer and daughter, Stacy Kostenbauer; stepson and daughter-in-law, Scott and Monica Kinsporn; brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Linda Kastenbauer; and four grandchildren, Alex, Jeremy, Paige, and Grace; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

A memorial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8 at Calvary Fellowship in Gottage Grove.

Arrangements are under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove.
