SHERIDAN -- A celebration of the life of Marc Phillip Coffeen, 60, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 1, at Cornerstone Church with the Rev. Tony Forman officiating, assisted by Dave Wagner. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Big Horn.

He died Aug. 29, 2007, at his residence.

Born Sept. 29, 1946, in Sedan, France, to Herbert and Suzanne (Consigny) Coffeen, he moved to Sheridan with his family as an infant, growing up and attending schools there, including Coffeen Elementary, and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1964.

While attending Sheridan College, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam in 1968. He returned to Sheridan and graduated from the college in 1969 with an associate of arts degree.

In Sheridan, he married Patricia Genereaux Aug. 16, 1969.

He was a carpenter by trade before going to work as a coal miner for Decker Coal Co. in 1977; he retired in 1995.

A member of Cornerstone Church in Sheridan and the Big Horn Historical Society, he was also a U.S. western history buff. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and photographer. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was a descendent of Henry Asa Coffeen, for which Coffeen Avenue and Coffeen School in Sheridan, Coffeen Street in Ranchester and Coffeen Park in the Bighorn Mountains were named.

Survivors include his wife Trish of Sheridan; three sons, Christopher and Nathan Coffeen, both of Sheridan, and Quinn Coffeen of Seattle, Wash.; his mother, Suzanne Coffeen of Sheridan; one brother, Michael Coffeen of Sheridan; and two sisters, Patricia Shokrian of Sheridan and Mary Coffeen Carley of Lake City, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials may be made to the Sheridan Historical Society, Big Horn Historical Society or the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library.
