SHERIDAN - Funeral services for Sheridan resident Larry E. Norton, 56, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army Worship Center in Sheridan by Capt. Mike Bates.

He died July 2, 2002, at his home.

He was born Aug. 19, 1945, in Sheridan, the son of Albert and Evelyn (Hammontree) Norton; and was raised on Big Horn area ranches and dairies.  At the age of 5, he lost the sight in his left eye while making a slingshot; at 8, he drove horse teams in the hay fields of Houston Duncan Ranch for his father; and, at 12, he started driving tractor for wages on the neighboring Haratyk Ranch.  In 1963, he graduated from Sheridan High School.

On July 4, 1975, he married Ginger Carnes Ferderer at the First Christian Church in Sheridan.

He helped pour concrete at the Tank Farm south of Sheridan and worked for Ellen Cotton in Decker, Mont.  He shingled roofs at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sheridan and then worked for Hank Frickey for 13 years.  He delivered the Billings Gazette bundles to Sheridan area carriers and did home deliveries from Sheridan to Big Horn for 10 years.

In the fall of 1990, he developed congestive heart failure and devoted his remaining years to helping his family and raising his grandchildren.  The father of three, he raised eight.

He liked to camp, fish and hunt; and enjoyed spending time in the Big Horn Mountains with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; three daughters, Christine Norton of California, Charleen Amman of Sheridan and Misty Hedegaard of Bonneville; four sons, David Norton of Billings, Mont., Mickey Ferderer of Gillette and Mark Norton and Albert Harshorn, both of Sheridan; a sister, Marjory Shreve of Sheridan; 13 grandchildren and two grand-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1964; mother in 1992; a sister, Betty Hartshorn, in 1999; and a nephew in 1989.
