Sylvia Lynn SMITH Wakefield 1943-2014 SHS1961

Alamosa resident Sylvia Lynn Wakefield, 70, passed away January 12, 2014.

Sylvia was born to Carl Smith and Norma (McEwan) Smith, June 18, 1943, in Sheridan, WY. She moved to Alamosa in 1972 with her husband and two small children.

Sylvia was well known for her wedding cake business which she ran out of her home in the 1970's when her children were little. She was also passionate about fitness and truly loved her work as an Aerobic Dancing instructor during the 1980's. She later worked as a cashier for City Market until she retired in 2005 after 18 years of service.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed the time spent with friends who cared for her when she was having trouble caring for herself.

She is survived by her mother, Norma McEwan of Alamosa, her sister, Leslie McEwan of Minneapolis, and two children; Todd Wakefield of Denver, and Mark (Lori) Wakefield of Buena Vista, Colorado. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Logan and Peyton, of Buena Vista.

Sylvia passed away peacefully at home in the company of family. She asked that her body be donated for medical research in the hope of helping others.
