Richard Arthur RADER 1943 – 2019 SHS 1961

Richard Arthur Rader, 75, of Sheridan passed away on Wednesday March 13, 2019 at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings, Montana.

Richard was born in Sheridan, Wyoming to Boyd W. and Ruth I. (Hill) Rader on May 30, 1943. He joined his sister Patricia and brother Boyd William, Jr. (Bill), and was followed minutes later by his fraternal twin Robert. Richard grew up in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1961.

In his teens and after high school, Richard worked at the family grocery store, Boyd's Supermarket. Richard became skilled as a meat cutter and later became the manager of the meat department and the deli. Richard was very proud of the store and enjoyed working with his family for over 35 years. In 1963, Richard married Karen Simmons and the couple raised their three children, Richard Jr., Susan and James.

Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, as well as spending time in the Big Horn Mountains. He was always impressed with the majesty of nature's beauty. Richard also had a love of all animals, especially cats. Richard had a great sense of humor and loved to bring a smile to those around him. Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on several committees over the years, he was a 50 year member of both Sheridan Lodge #8, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons and of the Sheridan Valley of the Scottish Rite, and he was also a member of Kalif Shrine.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Boyd & Ruth, his son Richard Jr., and his daughter Susan. He is survived by his wife Karen, his son James (Heather), his sister Pat Dunlap (Jimmy Jon), brothers Bill Rader (Jane) and Robert Rader (Daisy), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be at the First United Methodist Church, 215 W Works Street, Sheridan, Wyoming on Saturday March 30th at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jim Barth officiating. Masonic rites will also be given at the church. A reception at the church will immediately follow the service and inurnment will be at the Sheridan Masonic Oblong Square within the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery following the reception.

The Rader family would like to thank the ICU staff at Sheridan Memorial Hospital as well as the ICU staff at St. Vincent Healthcare Center in Billings, MT for their excellent care & compassion for Richard during his time at their hospitals.
