Jack Hoveland passed away suddenly following a heart attack on Monday, May 30, 2011 in Laramie, WY at the age of 67, surrounded by family.

Jack was born on September 14, 1943 to Ole and Lillian (Fjeldahl) Hoveland in Miles City, Montana. He remained in Miles City, Montana and attended school there until his family moved to Sheridan, Wyoming in 1958. He was a life time member of the Lutheran Church and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran in Sheridan in 1959. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1961.

During his high school years an d early college years, Jack worked for Ross Campbell in the Sheridan movie theaters. Following high school he enrolled in Sheridan College.

In 1963 he left Sheridan College to enlist in the Army. He proudly served his country in army intelligence in the 7th Army division. He was stationed in Stuttgart and Heidelberg, Germany from 1963 to 1967.

After he returned from Germany he re-entered Sheridan College. He then enrolled at the University of Wyoming, where he met the love of his life, Carole Munson, of Chappell, Nebraska. They married June 14, 1970, and would have celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary in a few weeks.

Jack received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Metropolitan State College in Denver in 1973. He practiced as a Certified Public Accountant in Denver until the family moved to Sheridan in 1977. In Sheridan he continued to practice accounting and eventually opened his own accounting office. For the past 9 years he has served as the Hospital Services Coordinator for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. He managed the transportation system that brings veterans to the Sheridan VA from the outlying clinics. Jack enjoyed the close friendships he developed while working for the DAV and especially enjoyed the friendships he developed with the volunteer drivers. He took pride and satisfaction in helping veterans obtain the medical care they needed.

Jack’s main interests over the years have always been his family, especially his children and grandchildren. His intelligence, quick wit, and great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Duane Holbrook.

Jack is survived by his wife and daughters: Heather Rothfuss (Chris) of Laramie, WY, Ingrid Mallberg (Brad) of Laramie, WY, Kirsten Minert (Brock) of Lincoln, NE, and Sigrid Noyd (Justin) of Billings, MT. He was a fun and loving grandpa to his grandchildren Connor and Zane Rothfuss, Marit and Brynn Mallberg, and Olivia Minert. He was looking forward to the arrival of Sigrid and Justin’s first baby, his sixth grandchild. He is also survived by his sisters, Joanne Holbrook of Sheridan, Marci Kirk (Pat) of Gillette and Story, Karen Kawulok (Frank) of Sheridan and sister-in-law, Sharon Silas (Joe) of Howey in the Hills, FL, and their children and grandchildren.

Viewing will be 11:00am until 3:00pm on Friday (June 3rd) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00am on Saturday from Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Phil Wold officiating. Internment will be at the Sheridan Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post #7.
