;

Jo Ann Wimer passed away January 22, 2009, at Cayuga Medical Center In Ithaca, New York, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Jo was born May 12, 1942, in Sheridan, WY. daughter of Harry and Margaret Wimer.

At the time of her death, Jo had recently retired from her job as Publications Editor at Cornell University in Ithaca.

Jo was a Cornell employee for more than thirty years. She served in the Publications Office as an editor, managing editor, and ultimately, University Editor, a position that was created for her in recognition of her high standards for editorial excellence and her encyclopedic knowledge of Cornell University. According to the University, she brought both qualities – and a tenacity in correcting errors – to everything she worked on, from short pamphlets to large, complex projects.

A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Jo graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Carolina.

In the 1960’s she worked for the United Nations and the U.S. Foreign Service at posts in Washington, Guatemala and New York City.

In her leisure hours, Jo enjoyed reading, movies, gardening, nature study, traveling to see friends and family, and the companionship of her beloved dog, Brin.

She is survived by her brother Alan, of Whitehall, MT., her sister, Sandy of Buffalo, WY. and nieces and nephews who loved her quiet, peaceful nature.

As per Jo’s request her body was donated to medical science and there will be no service. A private family remembrance will be held at a later date.
