SHERIDAN- Memorial services for George William "Bill" Grunkemeyer, 60, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 20 at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. David Duprey officiating.
He died June 16, 2003, at his home of Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Born July 27, 1942, in Casper, he was the son of George and Prudence Grunkemeyer. He grew up and attended school in Sheridan. He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor of science degree in microbiology.
He formed Grunko Films in the mid 1980s and began producing fishing,
hunting and wildlife videos. His work took him from the Arctic to
the tip of South America. He produced more than 40 videos, as well as 35
episodes for Grunko's series "Experience the Wild." He worked for
all the major television networks and won numerous awards for his productions
and camera work for other companies.
The national Wildlife Federation and the Wyoming Wildlife Federation
twice named him "Communicator of the Year" for Wyoming. Gov. Dave
Freudenthal proclaimed April 7, 2003, as "Bill Grunkemeyer Day" in Wyoming.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed skiing, fishing, hiking, and camping.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; a daughter, Gillian of Sheridan; a son, Cory of Denver; his mother, Prudence; a sister, Barbara Farr; two nieces; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
