Roy Ivar Edwin DYGERT 1941 - 2012 SHS 1960

Roy Ivar Edwin Dygert, 70, of Sheridan, Wyoming, died Friday, April 27, 2012 in Westview Health Care Center.

Mr. Dygert was born June 5, 1941 in Red Lodge, Montana to Edwin Ray and Aune Marie (Kortes) Dygert. Roy grew up and attended schools in Sheridan, Wyoming and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1960.

Mr. Dygert served in the U.S. Army from January 1964 through January of 1966 and was a Viet Nam Veteran.

Upon returning from the service, Roy started working at Big Horn Coal Company hauling retail coal from Sheridan, then to Big Horn Coal at Acme as a mechanic. Later he became a truck driver, heavy equipment operator, and crane operator. When the mine closed, Roy started doing farming for locals around the area. From 1994 – 1997 he was ½ owner of Sheridan Speedway.

Roy was a member of the V.F.W., Karz Club, and the Antique Car Club. He enjoyed snow machine riding, water skiing, racing cars, antique cars, both rebuilding and running them.

Roy loved his sons and taught them many valuable trades during their lifetime together, and enjoyed spending time with many friends.

Roy married Shirley Erich in 1966, and a son Ronn Jeffery, was born from this marriage. They divorced in 1968. In 1972, Roy married Jackie Kokes, and they had two sons, Chadran and Aaron. Roy and Jackie divorced in 1986, to be separated for five years, and to remarry in 1992. Although they were separated once again in 2002, they remained "very best" of friends. Either of them would do "anything" for the other. Joyce McGregor took care of Roy as best she could during the last years of his life.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Dygert; his mother, Aune Dygert; and his sister, Ina (Dygert) Lomax.

He is survived by his three sons, Ronn Jeffery, of Sheridan, Wyoming, Chadran, of Columbus, Ohio, and Aaron, of Sheridan, Wyoming; a brother, Arvo Dygert, of Hawthorne, California; two grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one niece, Gina Kelty; and one nephew, Leo Lomax.

Funeral service for Mr. Dygert will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2012 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Dr. Corey Jost officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military rites by the Wyoming National Guard and American Legion Post #7. A reception will be held at the Sheridan Elk's Lodge immediately following the interment. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
