Dale Ray Shreve, 69, of Gillette, Wyo., passed away peacefully April 11, 2010, at his home in Gillette, Wyoming from lung cancer.

He was born Jan. 29, 1941, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Raymond A. and Merle H. Shreve, along with his twin sister Barbara (Jim) Niner. They resided on the Shreve ranch in Wolf, Wyo. Dale attended school in Sheridan county and was a 1959 graduate of Sheridan High School. He continued on at Sheridan College where he graduated with an associates degree. He was active in 4-H and FFA.

In 1962, Dale enlisted into the U.S. Army and after serving a tour in Korea, he returned home in 1964.

He married Anne D. Hutton (Zimmerschied), on June 11, 1966 in Sheridan. The couple had four children; Brian, Scott, James, and Barbara Anne. They lived on the family ranch in Wolf, Wyo., where Dale had ranched for most of his life. The couple was divorced in 1981.

After selling the ranch in 1984, Dale lived in Buffalo, Wyo., and Evergreen, Colo., where he was Director of Maintenance at Life Care Center of Evergreen.

He married Carol Barrett on March 9th, 2002 in Evergreen and the couple moved to Gillette, Wyo., where Dale was a heavy equipment operator for Rio Tinto Energy America.

Dale enjoyed shooting and reloading, playing his guitars, playing cribbage and pinochle, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, riding horseback and being in the mountains. He was a great handyman and could work on and fix most anything. He spent time reading western books and listening to classic western music.

Dale was a member of the Elk’s Lodge, a past 4-H leader, and a member of the NRA.

He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

Survivors include his loving and caring wife, Carol A. Shreve of Gillette; three sons, Brian (Lorrie) Shreve of Avoca, Neb., Scott (Aimee) Shreve of Buffalo, Wyo., James (Jennifer) Shreve of Afton, Wyo.; one daughter, Barbara Anne (Wayne) Mitchell of Sheridan, Wyo.; two step-sons, Michael Rotolo of Sheridan, Wyo., Douglas Barrett of Gillette, Wyo.; one step-daughter, Kristina Barrett of Gillette, Wyo.; one twin sister, Barbara (Jim) Niner of Sheridan, Wyo.; numerous grandchildren, two nephews, his Missy Pup, several other family members and many friends.

A celebration of Dale’s life will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the WPA Building at Camplex Park, 2910 Doubletree Lane, Gillette from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

The family would like to extend a gracious thank you to the staff of CCMH Hospice and Walker Funeral Home for their loving care of Dale and his family.
