Dave PARKER 1941 - 2008 SHS 1959
;

Dave Parker died at his home on April 28, 2008 with his wife Jan by his side; he would have had it no other way.

Although at 67 years old, Dave had so much more to do, his life was full of family, dear friends, meaningful work, intellectual curiosity, laughter and joy.

For 30 years Dave knew the hand he had been dealt would shorten his life. With a courage many of us will never know, he persevered making every single day count. He believed Jan hung the moon and he loved his children fiercely. His granddaughters adored Papa Dave and he returned that affection ten-fold. He was a devoted son and his parents knew his love, respect and friendship.

Dave took ownership of Parker’s Glass from his father in 1969 and always remained dedicated to developing and growing the business. When Dave retired in 2007, he watched with immense pride as his son, Matthew, took over the Glass Shop, never doubting that it was in great hands.

Sheridan County benefited from Dave’s deep commitment to his community. He served on the boards of directors of Whitney Benefits, Sheridan College, Sheridan College Foundation, and the YMCA. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 520, and was involved with the Kalif Shrine and the Masonic Lodge.

Dave loved to hunt birds, particularly when the hunt involved travel, great comrades, and his sons.

History, especially the Civil War, intrigued him enormously.

He always loved learning about new places and things on his travels.

The morning Perkins coffee crew started his days for many years. His friends enjoyed his company, jokes, insights and he loved them dearly.

Dave is survived by Jan, his wife of 40 years and their four children: Matthew and his wife Renea, Sara and her partner Jennifer, Erin and her husband Keith, and Andrew. He is also survived by his sisters: Linda Davis and her husband Larry, Ginger Stout and her husband Randy, and Joyce Carroll and her husband Steve. Dave leaves behind three granddaughters, Treylee, McKailyn, and Zora, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joe and Josephine Powers Parker.

There are no words to say how much Dave will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 10:00AM on Saturday, May 3, 2008, with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating.
