Joanie is the daughter of Kenneth William Blanchard (1910-1987) and his wife Irene Christine Yaeger (1913-1970). They married on June 18, 1938 in Vancouver, WA. Kenneth is from Skagway, Alaska. Irene is from Minnedosa, Manitoba, Canada.

Joanie has a younger brother William "Bill" Norman Blanchard (born in 1945) and his wife Gloria Yosten Blanchard. They live in Sunnyvale, CA.

Joanie married Matthew M. McDole in 1967 and they divorced in 1971. She married Vincent Margers Berzins in 1972. He died in December 1984.

Joanie was a social worker who helped disadvantaged youth in the San Francisco Bay Area.
