Harry P. Mavrakis died November 4, 2009 at Hospice and Palliative Care House after a two year battle with cancer.

Harry was born August 21, 1940 in Sheridan, WY to Paul and Mary Mavrakis.

He has two younger siblings, George Mavrakis of Centennial, CO and Fay Zaharas of Cheyenne, WY.

He married Carolyn Hewes of Sundance, WY on August 28, 1966 in Sheridan, WY. They were married 43 years.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn and two children. His son, Paul Mavrakis and wife, Jenna Carlson Mavrakis live in Sheridan, WY and have two sons, Jack Harry and Andrew Paul. His daughter, Nicole Farber and husband, Timothy Farber live in Grand Junction, CO and have two children, Jordan Marie and Anthony Joe.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and twin granddaughters, Samantha and Rebecca.

Harry grew up in Sheridan, WY then attended University of Wyoming, obtaining a BA and Masters Degree in Education and Business.

He became a CPA and worked for Price Waterhouse in Denver, CO.

He joined the Air National Guard and was called to service during the Pueblo Crisis in Korea.

He moved to Grand Junction in 1978 and became the Broker Owner of Mavco Investments.

Harry was active in many community endeavors. He was a Rotarian since 1980 and a Paul Harris fellow. He participated in many projects such as providing dictionaries for all District 51 third graders and securing school supplies for children in need.

He was on the board of the American Red Cross, participated in the Waste Water and Sanitation District task force, as well as efforts to pass District 51 school bond issues.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren’s sporting activities.

He was an avid Bronco fan and loved golfing, bowling and playing poker with friends.

A Trisagion Service will be held Monday, November 9 th at 7:00 pm at Callahan-Edfast.

The funeral services will be Tuesday, November 10 th at 9:30 am at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church located on the comer of 12 th and Horizon Drive.
