OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - November 6, 2002

SHERIDAN - Funeral services for Sheridan resident Donald Carl Nelson, 63, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Church of Christ in Sheridan by minister Jim Hale.  Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, with military rites accorded by the American Legion and Wyoming National Guard.

He died Nov. 2, 2002, at his home.

Born May 21, 1939, in Hardin, Mont., he was the son of Carl and Dorothy (Loeber) Nelson. The family moved to the Sheridan area when he was 9 months old.  He attended Wakeley School and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1957.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1957 to 1961.  Following his discharge, he returned to Sheridan and worked for Sheridan Electric City.

On June 15, 1968, he married LaVonne Gentz.

He worked for Northern Lumber Co. and several other businesses until 1990, when he went to work for Westview Health Care Center.  He retired in 2001.

A member of the Church of Christ, he enjoyed woodcarving and gun-collecting.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years and two sons, Chris and Ken Nelson, all of Sheridan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert H. Baker.
