Donald Jack JACOBSON 1939 - 2014 SHS 1957

Donald Jack Jacobson, 74, of Casper passed away on April 27.

Don was born in Sheridan, Wyoming on April 30, 1939, to the late Chris and Margaret Jacobson. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1957, attended Sheridan College for two years, and received his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wyoming in 1962. Soon after, he established himself in Casper at the Bureau of Reclamation, where he worked for thirty years.

He married Susan Anderson on August 23rd, 1970 and together they raised two children, Erik and Erin.

Don was an avid outdoorsman and athlete with many lifetime accomplishments. His adventures took place throughout Wyoming and abroad. During his life, he spent many weekends exploring the Bighorn Mountains - fishing, hiking, skiing, and camping. He also enjoyed long bike tours with friends, completing routes through Wyoming, New England, and New Zealand. He trained with the Casper Windy City Striders and ran various marathons, including the 2000 Boston Marathon.

Don was also very active in the Nordic ski community, and local skiers remember him for his love and commitment to the sport. From 1972-1975 Don was Casper's first high school Nordic ski coach. He was instrumental in developing the Casper Mountain trail system. Skiers appreciate the lighted trail system Don designed, as well as the newly installed warming hut he planned and helped build. One of his greatest accomplishments was earning a 2013 Worldloppet Master Medal for completing ski marathons in 10 different countries. Don continued to share his knowledge and passion for skiing with countless youth and adults until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Peggy Doyle.

Don is survived by his wife Susan, son Erik (Sarah), granddaughter Hartley, daughter Erin, as well as two brothers, Ronald (Jan) and Dale (Cynthia), and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life for Don will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice, the American Cancer Society , or a charity of the donor's choice .
