Friends in Helena have learned of the death of George Bassett, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Bassett, Sheridan, Wyo., former Helena residents. Young Bassett was drowned Sunday while water skiing at Lake DeSmet, south of Sheridan. The body has not yet been recovered.

He attended Helena schools through his freshman year in high school. Before entering the University of Wyoming, where he was a senior, Bassett served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He recently had received a Ford Foundation grant to continue his studies in electrical engineering.

The Bassett family resided in Helena 15 years while the father was employed as supply officer at the Veterans Administration Center at Fort Harrison. Since his retirement about 10 years ago the family has resided in Sheridan.

Mrs, Bassett was active in the Girl Scout program in Helena and had served as the first executive secretary of the organization here.

In addition to his parents Bassett is survived by a sister, Sarah, who resides in Boston, Mass.
