Everett Mathew "Bud" Smith, 63, of Sheridan died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Lee.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 12, 1938, in Belfield, N.D. His family moved to Sheridan while he was a child, and he was a 1956 graduate of Sheridan High School.

He entered the Navy in 1957 and worked as a line crew chief on fighter jet aircraft until his honorable discharge.

He married Helen L. Hobbs in December 1961. They divorced in 1978.

He married Kim Gillis in May 1997.

He worked at a variety of professions, including being one of the initial participants in Boeing's 737 aircraft program in Renton, Wash.

He returned to Sheridan to work for Texaco Inc. and was an inspector on the Lake DeSmet upgrade project. He operated the Lake DeSmet Lodge and Marina for several years.

He spent the last 24 years working in Sheridan for Ed Hammer Inc.

He enjoyed a number of hobbies including woodworking and taxidermy.

Survivors include his wife, Kim; two sons, Terry and Michael of Austin, Texas; his mother, Pat Smith of Sheridan; three brothers, Richard of Sheridan, Jerry of Orlando, Fla., and Allen of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Peni Riesen of Sheridan; a grandson; and three great-grandchildren.
