Richard “Dick” Marquess, age 67, Sheridan native passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, in Deaconess Hospital, Billings, MT.

He was born November 13, 1937, at home in Sheridan, Wyoming to Earl and Fern (Kinnaman) Marquess. Dick graduated from Sheridan High School with the class of 1956.

He married Nancy Wardlow in Sheridan, Wyoming on November 3, 1957.

Dick worked for the Sheridan Greenhouse throughout his high school years and went to work for the Northern Lumber Co. in 1961. After the lumber company burned down, he went to work for Bruce Keahy at Bruce’s Standard Station and then was employed as a custodian at the Big Horn School for 16 years, retiring in 1999.

He moved his family to Big Horn, Wyoming in 1974 where they have lived for the past 31 years.

Dick enjoyed sports of all kinds and had a great time with his seven grandkids, Richelle and Randie Marquess and Audrey, Charlotte, Amanda, Sam and Jonathan Haller.

Dick was a lifetime member of the Sheridan Elks Lodge.

Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant son.

Survivors include his wife Nancy of Big Horn; one son, Richard and wife Kristie of Billings, Montana; one daughter, Margaret and husband Bill Haller of Casper, Wyoming; one brother, Harlan Marquess of Madison, Wisconsin; one sister, Beverly and husband Robyn Goodman of Missoula, Montana; seven grandchildren, Richelle and Randie Marquess, Audrey, Charlotte, Amanda Sam and Jonathan Haller.

Smith Funeral Chapel of Billings is in charge of cremation and a graveside memorial service may be held at a later date. Burial of cremains will be in the Elks section of the Sheridan Cemetery.
