OBITUARIES - THE SHERIDAN PRESS - July 21 2004 Former Sheridan resident Joan Gierisch Maxwell, 65, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at her daughter's home in Pleasant Grove, Utah, following a series of strokes.

Funeral services were July 9 at the Pella Ward Chapel. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley, Utah. Arrangements were with Rasmussen Funeral Home in Burley.

Mrs. Maxwell was born Aug. 9, 1938, in Burley to Ralph Kramer and Cloteal Bingham Gierisch. She spent her early childhood in Westcliff, Colo., where she attended a one-room schoolhouse. The family later moved to Denver, then to Sheridan.

She married Leroy "Max" Maxwell Sept. 1, 1956, in Sheridan.

The family lived in Fort Collins, Colo., and in Ashland and Salem, Ore.

Mrs. Maxwell and her children moved to Burley, then to Orem, Utah. Mrs. Maxwell returned to Burley in 1984.

She worked for much of her life as a clerk at J.C. Penney, manager of a gift shop in Orem and as owner of Farmer Joan's in Burley. For the last several years she worked at the South Idaho Press while caring for her parents and living on their farm.

She enjoyed photography.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Darwin R. and Ronald A. Gierisch.

Survivors include five children, Sheree M. Bench of Pleasant Grove, Daniel L. Maxwell of Syracuse, Utah, David M. Maxwell of Burley, and Kerri M. Bradford and Jonathan L. Maxwell, both of Orem; two sisters, Marie G. Larsen of South Jordan, Utah, and Elaine G. Henderson of West Valley City, Utah; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
