OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - March 2, 2002

GILLETTE - Funeral services for Gillette resident Ronald Ronald C. "Woody" Wood, 65, will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette by Pastor Rob Sarrow. Another service is planned for Monday at Kane Funeral Home in Sheridan. Burial will follow in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

He died Feb. 26, 2002, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 1. 1936, the son of Andrew and Bertha (Thayer) Wood. The family moved to Sheridan when he was 6 and he was raised and educated in Sheridan, graduating in 1955 from Sheridan High School.

Following school, he entered the U.S. Army and stationed for three years in Germany. After his discharge, he returned to Sheridan and was a truck driver.

He moved to Seattle for a short time and then returned to Wyoming, where he worked in the oil field and construction in Wyoming and California for Peter Kiewit and Sons. While in California, he opened a small engine repair shop.

After he and his wife, Mary Etta, returned to Wyoming, they started their own business, Wood Trucking, in Upton and moved the company to Gillette in 1973.

A member of the American Legion and Elks Club, he loved trucks and, especially, spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of Gillette; two daughters, Patricia R. Murphy of North Carolina and Tracy A. Mengel of Virginia; two brothers; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and lifelong friend, Kenneth Reynolds of Gillette.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
