Karl A. Smith, age 73, long time resident of Pensacola, died peacefully at his home, Sunday, June 13, 2010.

Karl enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955 and retired in 1982, Karl served as a Navy Seabee at various locations throughout the world, including a tour in Vietnam, three tours in Antarctica, Midway Island, Diego Garcia, Rota Spain and ending as an exam writer at Saufley Field, Pensacola, FL.

After retiring, Karl worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail handler for 16 years.

Karl enjoyed spending time with his family and watching purple martins and other various birds in the backyard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George H. Smith, and Sarah Elizabeth "Betty" Smith, of Sheridan, WY, and his brothers, Boe Smith and Curtis Smith of Denver, CO.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Colleen W. Smith of Pensacola, FL; son, Roy ÒNeilÓ (Rhodonna) Smith of West Hamlin, WV; son, Zane (Kathleen) Smith of Pensacola, FL; daughter, Dorraine (Robert) Relova of Pensacola; and son, Marty (Kim) Smith of Montgomery, AL. Karl is also survived by his three brothers George Smith of Gillette, WY, Gary Smith of Sacramento, CA, and David Smith of Castlerock, CO; his four nephews, Curtis Smith of Maricopa, AZ, Edwin Smith of Paulden, AZ, Allen Smith of Sheridan, WY, and Michael Smith of Gilbert, AZ; and seven grandchildren, Kerrie Mabry; Keelan Relova, Mathew Smith, Christian Relova, Felisha Smith, Megan Smith and Alexander Smith.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Trahan Family Funeral Home followed by a procession to Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS, Pensacola, FL for a service with full Military Honors. Trahan Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
