Sheridan native Donald Roy Shaffer, 71, of Loveland, Colo., died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at his home.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home in Loveland.

Born June 23, 1937, in Sheridan to Daniel Boone and Flora Olive (Whitford) Shaffer, he graduated from high school in Sheridan and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He married Natalia “Ruth” Hessenthaler on Aug. 31, 1957, in Chula Vista, Calif.

After his military career, he worked in law enforcement and later as business manager for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 48 in Portland, Ore. He retired in 1992.

He moved to Loveland from Bend, Ore., in August 2006.

He enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his wife, spending winters in Arizona. He loved music and outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing.

He was a member of Elks Lodge 1051 in Loveland.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Michael Shaffer of Oregon City, Ore; a daughter, Lynn Dompier of Loveland; two brothers, Dick of Victor, Mont., and Dannie of Cody; and three granddaughters.
