Joanne May MORELAND Hansen 1936 – 2018 SHS 1955

Joanne May Hansen passed peacefully in her Clyde Park, MT home on the morning of September 11, 2018 from health-related issues. Family members and her loving cat Muffy were present holding her in love and appreciation for all the gifts she gave this world during her near 82 years.

Joanne was born on December 5, 1936 in Sheridan, WY. She was the first of four daughters to be born to Elta and John Moreland. She spent her earliest years in Wyoming then the family moved to Montana where Joanne's ranch life began alongside her parents and sisters. Joanne spent her childhood growing up on several homesteads around Birney, MT. After graduating from high school Joanne went on to graduate from the Minnesota School of Laboratory Technique in Minneapolis, MN as a medical technician where she met and married Wayne Hansen. From Minnesota they moved back to Montana and then to Wyoming during which time they raised their two daughters, Deb and Jacque. Joanne would eventually return to hard core ranching with a move to Springdale, MT.

Joanne (aka Annie) was a "country girl" through and through. She especially enjoyed sharing her work ethic and love for ranch life with her granddaughters as well as her nieces and nephews. Gramma Annie and her granddaughters Jessie and Marca spent many long hours on horseback and in the tractor leaving the house before sunlight and returning home after sunset. There were also hours spent together tending to newborn calves on those snowy spring nights. She had a knack for saving any living plant or animal if it had a fighting chance. Joanne enjoyed the time spent with those that visited the ranch and often surprised visitors with a serving of her famous Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie or Peach Cobbler.

After a full life of ranching, Joanne retired to Clyde Park, MT with her longtime partner Robert Teague. She found great pleasure in watching a variety of birds frolicking around her lovely log home, tending her flowers, growing her garden, and communing with country neighbors, various friends and family members.

Joanne is survived by her daughters Debra Hansen Taverniti (Tim) and Jacque Hansen (Hector); granddaughters Jessica and Marca Taverniti; longtime partner Robert Teague; her sisters Marylee Moreland (Gary), Sharon Carleton (Roger) and Pat Dusenberry (Gerry); Aunt Jeanne Moreland Noland (Bob); nieces and nephews Desta Knotts (Todd), John Dusenberry (Christina), Gene Dusenberry (Kayla), Kindall Druker (Eric) and Christa Carleton and many more relatives and long-term friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the American Legion in Big Timber, MT on October 13, 2018 starting at 1PM to celebrate the life of Joanne. Time, treats and treasured stories will be shared!

A memorial donation in Joanne's name can be made to Stafford Animal Shelter (3 Business Park Rd, Livingston, MT 59047) or to your favorite charity. Joanne loved rocks, minerals, plants and animals alike!
