Joan Iris Jacobs, 72, of Sheridan died at Sheridan Manor of cancer, which she fought valiantly for four and one half years.

Joan was born October 12, 1937 in Sheridan, WY to Ralph Whitaker Jacobs and Dorothy Elizabeth (Sickler) Jacobs. The family lived in various houses on her grandparents (Ira and Rose Jacobs) ranch at Leiter, WY. She attended school at the Cadiz School until the family moved to Sheridan in the fall of 1946. In the spring of 1947, the family moved to Kendrick (4 miles from Leiter) living in a boxcar while their dad worked for the railroad and helped his father on the Jacobs ranch. In the summer of 1948 the family moved to Sheridan permanently where she attended grades 6-12 graduating from Sheridan High School in 1955.

Following graduation Joan worked in Sheridan for the Sheridan branch of Ryan Wholesale Grocery Company, and then Pacific Finance Loans.

In 1963 she moved to Billings, Montana where she worked for Ryan Wholesale Grocery and other wholesale grocers.

In 1986, Joan returned to Sheridan and was employed in various secretarial positions, and then she worked as a receptionist at Westview Health Care Center from 1994 until retiring in 2000.

Joan was proceeded in death by her parents, twin brother John Ira Jacobs in 2000, and sister, Elizabeth Reimers in 2002.

Joan is survived by a sister Beverly Rhodes (Joe) of Sheridan; brother-in-law Gene Reimers of Sheridan; nieces Leslie Carter (Troy) of Sheridan, and Margaret Michelena of Clearmont, WY; nehpews: Clinton Reimers (Leslie), Jerry Reimers (Rebecca), Jack Jacobs all of Sheridan; Donald Reimers (Kim) of Jacksonville, FL., Cleve Jacobs (Shirley) of Weston, WY., Gregory Jacobs (Cindy) of Billings, MT., and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
