Philip Lawrence Hannum, 70, a retired designer/developer, of Boulder CO passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008, in Las Vegas, NV, after a long struggle with kidney disease.

He was born September 30, 1937, in Pasadena CA. He married Virginia E. Badgett September 4, 1960 in Sheridan, where he spent his childhood and graduated high school. He attended University at Montana State where he studied Architecture.

He designed buildings in and around Sheridan and did many remodeling projects.

The family moved to Boulder in 1963, where Philip built the Applewood Townhouses on N. Broadway, one of the first condominium projects in Boulder.

He was very active in the early historic preservation movement throughout Colorado, working as project director of the Ninth Street Historic Park in Denver and Miramont-Montcalm Castle in Manitou Springs among many other restoration/adaptive reuse projects.

He retired from Developmental Pathways in 1993. He pursued interests in rospecting, mining, salvage, classic automobile restoration and real estate.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Dr. Henry B Hannum; his mother, Viola B. (Hatton) Hannum; and his brother William H. Hannum.

Philip is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Virginia Hannum; Brother Richard L. Hannum of Littleton CO.; Sons Philip Mark Hannum of Seattle; and Daniel H. Hannum of Las Vegas,; daughter-in-law Debra Hannum; step-grandchildren, Jacob Wood, Jonathan Wood and Jessica Englerth; and step-great grandchildren, Hannah, Caden, Faith, Aubiel, Elliana, and Grace.
