Donald (Donnie) Clifford Carroll   1936-2001  SHS 1955

Don passed away at his home in Gunnison, Colorado November 22, 2001.  Don
was born December 7, 1936, in Sheridan, Wyoming to Clifford and Genet
Carroll. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1955. He attended the
Colorado State University and graduate in 1960 with a  BS degree in Marketing
and Business. He married Janet Lee Holcomb (SHS1954) in Sheridan, January 19, 1963.

They moved to Gunnison , Colorado in fall of 1965 and went into a family shoe
business, and then later into backpacking, mountaineering, cross country skiing
and army surplus, with Carroll's Sporting Goods.  Since 1988 Don has been in
the Real Estate business. Don loved the outdoors-climbing, skiing, fishing,
camping, packtrips, and hunting.

Don had two sons  Todd and Torrey.  Don was active with Boy Scouts of America,
Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Gunnison, Downtown Business Association,
Castle Mountain Road and Recreation Association, Toastmasters, City of Gunnison Planning
Commission and Western State College Mountain Search and Rescue Team.

OBITUARIES - THE SHERIDAN PRESS - December 6, 2001

Sheridan native Donald Clifford Carroll, 64, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in Gunnison, Colo.

A celebration of his life was Nov. 26 at the Gunnison Community Church.

Mr. Carroll was born Dec. 7, 1936, to Clifford and Genet Carroll of Sheridan.
He was a graduate of Sheridan High School and Colorado State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and the college ski team.

He married Janet Lee Holcomb of Sheridan Jan. 19, 1963.

They moved to Gunnison in 1965, where they owned and operated Carroll's Sporting Goods.  He had been in real estate since 1988.

Survivors include his wife of Gunnison; two sons, Todd of Crested Butte, Colo., and Torrey of Reno, Nev.; his mother; a brother, Robert B. Carroll of Sheridan; a sister, Francey Osgard of Yorba Linda, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Western State College Mountain Search and Rescue Team in Gunnison, or to Hospice.
