Stephen DeWitt ROGERS 1936 - 2006 SHS 1954
SHERIDAN -- A celebration of life for Stephen DeWitt Rogers 69, will be held at a later date in Mesa, Ariz., and Sheridan.

He died June 8, 2006, at his residence after a battle with cancer.

He was born in Sheridan on July 28, 1936, to Dr. Curtis L. and Ernestine Levers Rogers.

He was raised in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1954.

He attended several colleges and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1961 from Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

He was an assistant manager of Gambles in Laramie until 1964, when he became manager of one of the first Montgomery Ward Catalog and Tire stores in the state in Lander. In 1967, he opened up a Dairy Queen Brazier store in Lander. The name was later changed to Dairy Land. He sold the drive-in in 1974 and moved to Sheridan.

In July 1976, he went to work for Ash Creek Mining Company, where he retired in 1994. He then supervised the reclamation of the mine for the next year.

He married Nancy Helvey Burkhart in 1985. They spent many years traveling in their motor home and settled in Mesa, Ariz., for the winters in 2003. There, he was vice president of the Sunland Towers Condominium Association and was in charge of building and grounds. He was also a member of TRAC (Sheridan Pathways) in Sheridan.

Survivors include his wife and children, Stephen of Eau Claire, Wis., Mathew of Ethete, Scott of Bozeman, Mont., Tara Rogers of Sheridan and Margaret Stiles of Queen Creek, Ariz.; his sister, Carly Viehmeyer of Burlington, Colo., and stepson Bruce Burkhart of Sheridan; six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
