BASIN - John Dwane Pierson, 75, of Basin and formerly of Thermopolis and Sheridan, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011 at the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin where he had been a resident since Jan. 5, 2011.

On Oct. 17, 1935 John was born in Midwest, Wyo. to Herbert Willis and Doris Elva (Zucca) Pierson.

As an infant, John moved with his family to Sheridan where he grew up, went to school and graduated from Sheridan High School.

On April 7, 1955 John entered military life, serving in the U.S. Air Force until he was honorably discharged on Jan. 26, 2959. John lived in Colorado and Montana but Sheridan has always been home.

John was a very basic man who loved camping, hunting and fishing and he had a special place in his heart for the Big Horn Mountains. John was very involved with the Elks Lodge and held many positions including Exalted Ruler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Doris Pierson; and a daughter, Laura Pierson.

John is survived by his son, Gregory Allen Pierson of Tacoma, Wash.; his daughter, Peggy Ann Pierson of University Place, Wash; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his sister and brother-in-law, Kathy "Kas" and Ken Nyberg of Manderson.

Per John's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
