Story, WY resident, Marvin Dee Monroe, 71, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at his home.

A memorial service will be 10:00 am on Thursday (July 17th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor John Constantine officiating.

Marvin was born October 23, 1936, in Sheridan, WY to Thomas and Freda (Pratt) Monroe. He grew up and attended schools in Sheridan and was a graduate of Northern Wyoming Community College in 1956.

He married Marilynn Smith on June 3, 1956, in Sheridan and they moved to Laramie, WY where they both attended the University of Wyoming after which they moved to Cañon City, Colorado.

Marvin worked for the Daily Record, later working as a chemist at Cotter Corporation.

He and Marilynn purchased a Hallmark card and gift shop in 1969 which they owned until 1999 when they sold the business and retired to Story.

Marvin was also a Captain in the U.S. Army National Guard. He retired in 1996 after 21 years of service.

Marvin enjoyed building log furniture, woodworking and maintaining his Story home. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, active in numerous business and sportsman’s organizations. He was also an avid western history buff and was currently serving as President of the Big Horn Historical Society, was a member of the Sheridan County Historical Society and the Story Historical Society.

He was an active member of the Story Community Church and the Men’s Fellowship.

Marvin loved his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marvin is survived by his beloved wife Marilynn; daughter Rita (Dennis) Rowe with grandchildren Shawn (Lisa) Rowe and Shane (Cary) Rowe and Denise Rowe. Great grandchildren Emma and Sydney Rowe and Tristan and Aiden Rowe of Cañon City, CO; daughter Donna Monroe with grandchildren Travis and Brooke Erps of Guffey, CO.
