Clarence “Earl” Voogd, 74, of Sheridan, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Westview Health Care Center.

Viewing will be 4-8 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Born April 30, 1934, in Sheridan to Homer and Jessie (Rose) Voogd, he was raised in the Sheridan and Banner area. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1953.

He married Margaret “Peggy” Harrison on Aug. 12, 1956, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

He completed vocational courses in welding and auto mechanics. He was employed at Skarr Motors, where he began a lifelong interest in Studebaker cars.

At age 18, he went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in 1998 after 43 years.

Mr. Voogd was a 50-year member of the United Transportation Union and a founding member of the Taylor School HO Rail Road Club. He also belonged to the Wyoming License Plate Society and Northern Wyoming Studebaker Club.

He enjoyed Ford tractors, Studebakers and Chevy pickups, collecting anything related to trains, old tools, license plates, and gardening, and growing his own flowers.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Dan Voogd; and a brother, Stan Voogd.

Survivors include sons Nicky of Sheridan and David of Denver; a daughter, Terri Voogd of Sheridan; a brother, Homer Voogd Jr. of Sheridan; one granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
