Ronald RIDLEY 1933-2017 SHS 1953

Ronald Ridley of Argyle,TX died at home May 18 after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Singing Oaks Church of Christ in Denton, TX. Officiating will be Ross Thomson, minister at Singing Oaks, and Rodney Bolejack, D. Min., chaplain with Vitas Healthcare.

Ridley is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son, Rory of Austin; a daughter, Ronda Roberts of Denton; Stepsons Jim Martin of Argyle and Chad Martin of San Diego, CA; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Rick; and parents, Elvin and Helen Colson Ridley.

Ridley was born Oct. 24, 1933 in Sheridan, WY. He served in the U.S. Marines in Korea from 1950 to 1953.

As a youngster, he worked with his father in a vending machine business and later owned his own office supply company. An entrepreneur, he owned his own private speed-reading school. He also served in several business management and marketing positions.

Ron never met a stranger and was known for serving and ministering to others. A servant at heart, he ministered to young men through the Boys Club of Cicero, IL. He served in numerous Christian ministries including Bill Glass Prison Ministries, jail ministry in Denton, and Celebrate Recovery at Singing Oaks Church of Christ. He also served as a Stephen minister at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Dallas and was active for many years in a men's Bible study group at Denton Bible Church.

Ed. Note: After Ron was discharged from active duty, he returned to Sheridan and volunteered his time with the Boy Scout troup run by Shorty Jackson. As a Marine, he was a Judo instructor, and passed those skills on to a number of Explorer Scouts. He was also one of the co-founders of what became the SHSALUMNI.NET website, originally started as an online newsletter named the Sheridan Express.
