Ione Alice Mayfield, 75, of Sheridan, WY, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 in Sheridan Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Mayfield was born March 6, 1934 in Sheridan, WY to Gerald Wilbur and Hannah Clarabelle (Miller) Lyons. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan.

Ione married Brice Mayfield October 12, 1951 in Bentonville, Arkansas.

She was a teacher’s aide in S. A. T. for Special Education for 10 years, then worked as a teacher’s aide and secretary at Tongue River Elementary. Mrs. Mayfield was a house wife and mother, and also worked as a volunteer for Special Olympics for 30 years.

Ione was a member of the V. F. W. Post #1560 in Sheridan. She loved working in her flower garden, doing handcrafts, dancing, working with people with disabilities, camping and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Mayfield was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Brice; and one brother, Roy E. Lyons.

She is survived two sons, Brice W. Mayfield, of Sheridan, WY, and Oscar Mayfield, and wife Nancy,of Pipe Creek, TX; one daughter, Tina Pierce, and husband Chris, of Parker, CO; one brother, Gerald L. Lyons, of Ranchester, WY; one sister, Helen Jordan, of Sheridan, WY; four grandchildren, Rebecca and Thomas Doyle Belloni, and Brice A. and Maximilian Mayfield; and two great grandchildren, Gracie and Tyler Belloni; two sisters-in-law, Madonna Rowe, and Mrs. Roy Lyons; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial service for Mrs. Mayfield will be Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
