Joseph Evangeline, 73, of Sheridan, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was a patient at Sheridan Dialysis unit for more than 12 years.

Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery.

Born in Sheridan Aug. 9, 1935, to James and Ludine Evangeline, he attended Coffeen Elementary School and was a graduate of Sheridan High School.

He attended Sheridan College and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor’s degree in business.

He worked as an auditor/examiner for the State of Wyoming and Montana, and the National Credit Union Association in Helena, Mont., until his retirement in 1989, when he returned to Sheridan.

He married Virginia James in Sheridan Aug. 11, 1968. He ran businesses in Sheridan including JE Motel and JE Mobile Home Court.

He was a member of the Sheridan Elks Lodge No. 520, the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine.

He enjoyed bowling, fishing, spending time in the mountains, joining his "Coffee Club" friends at the Holiday, and was said to have a fondness for Boston Terriers.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Pete Evangeline; three uncles and an aunt.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Sheridan; stepson, Don K. James of Billings; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
