(John was born January 22, 1936 in Kalamazoo, Michigan and died June 14, 2000.
He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia)

John David  Crawford, 64, an economist with the Federal Emergency Management Agency from 1970 until his retirement last year, died of prostate cancer June 14th at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Mr. Crawford who lived in Alexandria for more than 30 years, was born in Kalamazoo, MI. and grew up in Sheridan, WY. After high school, Mr. Crawford served in the Army until 1958 and continued his service in the reserves for several           years following his retirement from active duty. He graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in foreign relations and received a masters depress in exonomics from Central Michigan University.

At FEMA, Mr. Crawford specialized in economic issues related to emergency planning and preparedness. Prior to joining FEMA, Mr. Crawford served as an International Economist at the Department of Commerce and as a Budget
Analyst with the Department of the Treasury. An accomplished linguist, Mr. Crawford spoke eight languages, and, an avid outdoorsman, he greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Crawford was well known as an afficianado of
classical music, and he love literature, history, and the arts.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic church in Alexandria, the Knights of Columbus and the Civil War roundtable.

Mr. Crawford is survivied by his wife of 38 years. Waltraud E. Crawford, a daughter, Miriam Crawford Keegan of Arlington, and a son Stefan P. Crawford of Richmond, VA. He is also survived by a brother, William Crawford of Spokane,
WA. two sisters, Marie Clinton of Spokane, WA, and Caroline Baglien of Chehalis, WA. and a granddaughter, Caileigh E. Keegan of Arlington.

Services will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 36th and O St. N.W. on Thursday, June 29, at 11:30 a.m. with interment  in Arlington National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow at Ft. Myer's Officers Club at 3:00
