OBITUARIES - THE SHERIDAN PRESS - July 8 2004 Sheridan native Charles Melvin Carroll, 69, of Riverton died Friday, June 11, 2004, at University of Colorado Hospital following a five-month battle with esophageal cancer.

A memorial service was June 21 at United Methodist Church in Riverton.

Mr. Carroll was born July 17, 1934, in Sheridan to Alta (Wallace) and Granville W. Carroll. He was a 1952 graduate of Sheridan High School and was student body president. He joined the Navy and served on the aircraft carriers USS Bataan and USS Bedoing Straight.

He married Clara Blakeman in 1953. They divorced in 1982.

Mr. Carroll graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1958 and received his master's degree from the University of Montana-Missoula in 1963.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served as lodge grand master. He also belonged to the Shriners.

He served as elementary school principal in Worland and later as field coordinator and instructor for the University of Wyoming. He was among the first employees at Central Wyoming College and served as dean of Extended Day and, later, a member of the board of directors.

He and his daughter, Jodi, operated the Village Stripper in Riverton for the past nine years. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing and woodworking.

He married Bobbie Sue Lund in 1996.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Cleone, and a brother, Ira "Ike" L. Carroll.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathleen Welch and Jodi Edwards; two sons, Dirk and Quinn; a stepdaughter, Mitzi Voss; 11 brothers and sisters; 10 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
